A set of specialized glossaries, whether software or in print, for those uncommon terms you may find while translating.
A good synonym and thesaurus tool. Apple provides a very good Dictionary application that will even search for context in Wikipedia and the web. Also Microsoft Word comes in very handy offering synonyms and thesaurus terms with just the click of a button.
Google it! The google search engine is a great translation tool. First of all it will give you access to several glossaries and dictionaries, but it will also help you look for translation forums where your particular term has already been discussed. Also as a research tool to learn about a particular subject or just to make sure that the phrase you plan to use is already being used within a similar context.
Wikipedia. Similarly to Google, wikipedia will give you access to large amounts of information and knowledge to learn about any subject and many times the articles have already been translated in several languages, giving you an excellent guidance for the work you are doing.
Your own language experience. Don't settle for a literal translation of the source text if your experience tells you that it will not sound right in your target language. Turn the phrase around, change a few words to adapt to the language and culture you are dealing with and always make sure that the phrase is readable and pleasant for the target reader.
